Izadi Rioja Reserva 2014
I came across this Rioja earlier this Autumn, very timely as it feels like a winter wine perfect to beat out the cold weather.
As expected, it’s full bodied, with a long lingering finish. Oak aged for 16 months in French and American oak, the use of two different types of barrels aid the complexity of the wine; aromatic with black fruit and tobacco on the nose and in the mouth you can sense black fruit, black pepper, with enough earthiness to make this an excellent wine to either pair with food or simply enjoy a glass on its’ own.
If it is being paired with food, it would suit a hearty meal, for meat eaters, a slow cooked Sunday joint would work well, pour a few drops in to the roasting dish to help with the stock. Alternatively, a selection of seasoned root vegetables or veggie sausages.
